In this process he liberated lakhs of scavengers from carrying the night-soil on their head and became their messiah. He is also known as social reformer, who educated the illiterate scavengers and their children. He crusaded against the evils of untouchability and low status of women nay untouchable women. He is also known as a visionary, innovator and charismatic personality. As a person, he is a friend, philosopher and guide. His compassion towards the people specially the lower castes, has no bounds.
