Women are central to social engineering, nation building and global development. To quote Swami Vivekananda, “There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing”.
It is important that all women become emancipated and empowered to live with dignity and contribute as equal partners in development in an environment free from violence and discrimination. All efforts should be made as a nation for de-jure and de-facto enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedom by women on equal basis with men in all spheres – political, economic, social, cultural and civil. Persistent efforts are being made and have to endure to do so with greater intensity and vigour towards mainstreaming gender perspective in the development process.
