Summary, etc. ಬುಕಾನನ್ ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ ಬುಕ್ಯಾನನ್-ಹ್ಯಾಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ (ಕ್ರಿ.ಶ.1762-1829) ಸ್ಕಾಟ್‌ಲ್ಯಾಂಡಿನ ವೈದ್ಯ, ಭೂಗೋಳ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಜ್ಞ, ಸಸ್ಯಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಜ್ಞ ಮತ್ತು ಜೀವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಜ್ಞನಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದವನು. ಬಾಂಬೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಚೀನಾಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ಆತ ಕೋಲ್ಕತ್ತಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂಗಾಳ ಪ್ರೆಸಿಡೆನ್ಸಿಯ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಸೇವೆಗೆ ನಿಯೋಜಿತನಾಗಿದ್ದ. ಬುಕ್ಯಾನನ್ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಕ್ರಿ.ಶ.1800ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೈಸೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿ.ಶ.1807-14ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂಗಾಳ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದ. ಈ ವರದಿಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (ಕ್ರಿ.ಶ.1803-04) ಭಾರತದ - ಗವರ್ನರ್ ಜನರಲ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ಲಾರ್ಡ್ ವೆಲ್ಲೆಸ್ಲಿಯ ಖಾಸಗೀ ಸರ್ಜನ್ ಆಗಿ ಕೂಡ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದ. ಬುಕ್ಯಾನನ್ ಅನುಭವ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಕಂಪನಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ಮೈಸೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಮದ್ರಾಸ್ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೆಲವು ನಿರ್ದೇಶನಗಳಿಗೆ ಅನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ವಿಸ್ತ್ರತ ವರದಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಲು ಕೋರುತ್ತದೆ. ಬುಕ್ಯಾನನ್ ನಾಡಿನ ಸ್ಥಳಾಕೃತಿ, ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಪುರಾತನ ಇಮಾರತುಗಳು, ವಸ್ತುಗಳು, ಧರ್ಮ, ಪ್ರಾಕೃತಿಕ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳು, ಕೃಷಿ ಪದ್ಧತಿ, ಜನ-ಜೀವನ, ಆಡಳಿತ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳು ಮುಂತಾದ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದಿನ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುವು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವ ಮಹತ್ತಾದ ಹೊಣೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಈ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬುಕ್ಯಾನನ್ ವರದಿಯು ಒಂದು ಅತ್ಯಮೂಲ್ಯ ದಾಖಲೆಯಾಗಿದೆ
